Creation Matters Author Instructions
If you would like to submit a paper for potential publication in Creation Matters, please review the instructions below:
- Pitch your article idea. While we may accept unsolicited articles, you will have a smoother and more rewarding experience if you already know your article is desired by the editor before you write it. Your email to the editor should include:
- A compelling subject line. This should briefly describe your pitch.
- A concise summary. Briefly explain your proposed article, including the topic, key points, the relevance to creation science, and why it would be a good fit for Creation Matters.
- Your connection to the topic. Explain why you are the right person to write this article, especially if you have personal experience or expertise that is relevant. If you have a college degree (not required), we would like to feature that information with your article.
- Information about your writing and pictures. Mention any relevant writing experience you have. If you can provide pictures for your article, be sure to note that. We print in full color and welcome a limited number of photos or figures.
- A general timeline of when you might be able to finish the article. We understand that life happens. This is not a contract or a promise. It just helps us to plan for future issues if we know whether you can have the article in our hands in a couple of weeks or whether you can’t finish it until months in the future.
- Email your pitch to the Creation Matters editor. Address emails to CMEditor@creationresearch.org.
- Wait for a response. We will usually send a brief notice of receipt within a few days, but it may take a month or more to evaluate your proposed article and provide some feedback and a deadline for submitting the completed article, if approved. If you do not hear back within a reasonable amount of time, a polite follow-up is appropriate.
- Write the article. If accepted, follow these author instructions to compose your article.
Tips for a strong pitch:
- Read past issues. Familiarize yourself with the types of articles we usually publish and their style and tone. This will illustrate what we are looking for in future articles. Past issues are available HERE.
- Be relevant to our mission. Creation Matters is a lay-level publication designed to make creation science research accessible to a broad audience. We accept semi-technical content and general interest articles, but more technical content, and especially research papers, should be directed to the editor of the CRSQ.
- Focus on the science. There will often be theological implications or scripture references that are pertinent to our content, but we do not publish theology articles. We also do not publish history articles except where the content is directly relevant to creation science. Successful articles will generally have a lot of science in them.
- Include the big picture. Explain how your article would fit into the creation science field. Whether you’re examining God’s creative design in nature, critiquing evolutionary claims, supporting a particular model within creation science, or placing secular scientific discoveries within a Biblical framework, we want to understand where you’re going.
