Despite 150 years of research, uniformitarian scientists cannot explain the Grand Canyon. Their greatest difficulty is that the canyon was carved at an intermediate elevation of the Kaibab/Coconino Plateau. The current uniformitarian hypotheses, piping and overspill, both have little or no direct evidence. Creation scientists have two competing models: the Dam-Breach and the Late-Flood, Channelized Erosion Models. Before the canyon was carved, the area experienced the Cenozoic “Great Denudation,” in which 2.5 to 5 km of rock was scoured from the Colorado Plateau. Next, the “Canyon Cycle” carved the Grand Canyon and others. This pattern of erosion fits Tas Walker’s Recessive Stage of the Flood. Evidence favors the Late-Flood Channelized Erosion Model, while the Dam-Breach Model has major problems. However, the discovery of possible shorelines with tufa and new information on the Bidahochi Formation has infused new life into the Dam-Breach Model. These and other possible evidence are examined.
